Associate Professor in Educational Leadership

Associate Professor in Educational Leadership: Helen teaches research methods to postgraduate students, as well as postgraduate units in organisational leadership, planning and management. Currently, Helen supervises doctoral and Masters research in the areas of school review, school accountability, workplace learning, shadowing, teacher change, and teacher leadership. Her research focuses on schools and school reform. Her particular focus is on the work of the school principal. Related to this is an ongoing interest in standards, teacher change, small school leadership, leadership development and the use of data in school decision making. She conducts research with WA independent schools through the NuLit project, and for the Catholic Education office schools through NuLit, RAISe and KimLit projects. Her most recent ARC grant dealt with performance-based assessment of professional standards for school principals (http://isp.ecu.edu.au/ssl/index.plp). She also directs the Australian PIPS (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools) project involving the assessment of literacy and numeracy progress of students entering primary schooling in approximately 770 schools located in all educational jurisdictions across Australia.
