Graduate Certificate in Special Needs Education

Course Code: C1047

This course is designed for teachers who wish to enhance their capacity to respond to diversity among all students. It comprises three units of coursework addressing the provision of inclusive education programs.
These units focus on catering for diversity in the classroom and the teaching and learning adjustments that teachers can make for students with special needs, learning difficulties and disabilities in a range of education settings.  The certificate also requires students to undertake a six-week practicum placement in an appropriate educational setting.

Employment Prospects:This Graduate Certificate will prepare teachers for employment in special or inclusive education settings. It meets the requirements of the Department of Education and Training in WA to teach in a special or inclusive education setting.
Special Requirements:Placement in the practicum component of the Graduate Certificate will require that students obtain police clearance through the Department of Education and Training. Students should refer to the Study at Murdoch section of this Handbook for details on this essential requirement.
Professional Recognition:The qualification is a professional specialisation offering the opportunity for teachers to enhance their employment options and employability within the teaching field. The Certificate is recognised by the Department of Education and Training in WA.
