Connecting with Culture

This project involved the development of a professional development package for school administrators and teachers who are currently teaching, or are about to teach, in remote schools in Western Australia with significant Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander populations. CLCD staff directed this project as well as taking specific responsibility for the editing (content) process of five 30-40 minute videos and CD Rom. The videos and CDs focus on different issues in teaching Aboriginal children in four distinctly different schools in remote, semi remote and urban schools in Western Australia . A web-site was developed to connect these teachers to supportive publications on different issues surrounding remote and Indigenous teaching and to a discussion room.

The resulting package was used by the Department of Education and Training WA , the Association of Independent Schools in WA and the Catholic Education Office.
