Evaluation of Salinity in the Classroom Education Resource
The Department of Agriculture developed the salinity education kit Salinity in the Classroom during 2001-2002. It was launched in August 2002 and then sent free of charge to all schools in Western Australia, all local government authorities and a range of university faculties related to either education or natural resource management.
The kit is important as Western Australia is thought to have the most severe dryland salinity problem in Australia but is also the leader in its management . 1.8-million hectares of WA is now affected by salt.
The Murdoch team was contracted to evaluate the use of the salinity in classroom kit in both Science and Society and Environment classrooms. The kit includes background information, activities, links to the curriculum framework, and the team is evaluating the value of each kit's components.(Video, weblinks, CD-ROM, mindmap, etc).
